MHS Convenient Care Clinic – Celebrates Grand Opening! (January 7, 2010)
Managed Health Services (MHS), a health maintenance organization (HMO) that provides Medicaid, SSI and Medicare Advantage services for Wisconsin beneficiaries, is very pleased as an organization to better serve the community and its members by offering additional opportunities for affordable and accessible quality health care.
On October 5, 2009 through a joint partnership, MHS and Milwaukee Health Services opened the MHS Convenient Care Clinic, which most recently celebrated its grand opening on January 7, 2010, that featured honorary guest speakers including:
- Milwaukee Mayor, Tom Barrett
- Commission of Health, City of Milwaukee, Bevan Baker
- Senator, Spencer Coggs
- Supervisor, Toni Clark
- Pastor Walter Harvey, Parklawn Assembly of God
- C.C. Henderson, president & CEO, Milwaukee Health Services
- Sherry Husa, president & CEO, Managed Health Services
The Convenient Care Clinic is just that—convenient! It is located in midtown Milwaukee within Lena’s (Piggly Wiggly) Food Market on N. 54th and Capitol Drive. The clinic offers fast, convenient access to basic acute care services, treatments, vaccines and screenings, as well as convenient days, nights and weekend hours. Services are made available to all patients, particularly those that may not have a primary care provider (PCP). As stated by Tito Izard, chief medical officer for Milwaukee Health Services, “the clinic is a point of entry.”
The clinic is owned and operated by Milwaukee Health Services, a community health center that provides care for more than 32,000 people a year. Services are available to all people regardless of ability to pay. The clinic has primarily provided care to those covered by Medicaid programs, such as BadgerCare Plus and SSI and Medicare Advantage programs, and those with no insurance. A sliding scale for payment is made available by the clinic to those without health insurance coverage.
Based on the growing need for increased access to primary care services, and the rising trend of quick care clinics across the nation, MHS initiated the development concept with Milwaukee Health Services and provided funding through MHS’ parent company, Centene Corporation. Sherry Husa, president and CEO of MHS, says “the clinic provides such a critical service to those in need of health care, particularly during an economic time when accessible and affordable quality care may be overlooked. We are pleased to be a part of such a valuable community service, and we look forward to supporting the clinic and similar outreach programs in the future to drive increased access to affordable healthcare throughout Wisconsin.”
