MHS Notified of Contract Decision for Southeast Wisconsin
MANAGED HEALTH SERVICES NOTIFIED OF CONTRACT DECISION FOR SOUTHEAST WISCONSIN
-Company Continues To Serve More Than 77,000 Members Across State-
MILWAUKEE (APRIL 13, 2010) – Managed Health Services (MHS), a health maintenance organization that has served Wisconsin Medicaid recipients since 1984 and a subsidiary of St. Louis-based Centene Corporation (CNC) was notified yesterday by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services it was not awarded the Southeast Wisconsin BadgerCare Plus Managed Care contract. The change is effective November 1, 2010; after a two-month transition period (September through October), MHS will no longer serve BadgerCare Plus Standard and Benchmark members in Milwaukee, Washington, Ozaukee, Waukesha and Kenosha counties.
“This is disappointing for all of us who have worked so diligently to provide comprehensive managed care services to BadgerCare Plus enrollees in Southeast Wisconsin while also helping the state of Wisconsin save significant taxpayer resources,” said MHS President and Chief Executive Sherry Husa. “With MHS’ headquarters in Milwaukee for the past 25 years, we have a strong connection to the area and our top priority remains to ensure a smooth transition for impacted members.”
MHS staff will also continue dedicating itself to providing high-quality healthcare services and programs to the more than 6,000 Wisconsin Core Plan and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) members in this region not impacted by this decision and the more than 71,000 members MHS serves in other regions of the state. In addition to southeast Wisconsin, the plan operates in 27 counties in the north, northeast and west central regions of Wisconsin under a separate contract with the state.
